Chapter 26, Section 1 (פֶּרֶק כ״ו אוֹת א׳)

1. “And I saw something like the appearance of chashmal” (Yeḥezkel 1:27) (וָאֵרֶא כְּעֵין חַשְׁמַל]-this one is tested and examined (זֶה נִזְקָק וּבוֹרֵר), whether he is worthy to descend into the Merkavah or not (אִם רָאוּי לֵרֵד בַּמֶּרְכָּבָה אִם לָאו). If he is worthy to descend into the Merkavah (אִם רָאוּי לֵרֵד בַּמֶּרְכָּבָה), once they say to him “enter,” and he does not enter (כֵּיוָן שֶׁאוֹמְרִין לוֹ הִכָּנֵס וְאֵינוֹ נִכְנָס), they return and say to him again “enter” (חוֹזְרִין וְאוֹמְרִין לוֹ הִכָּנֵס), and immediately he enters (וּמִיָּד נִכְנָס). They then surely praise him (הָיוּ מְשַׁבְּחִין אוֹתוֹ בְּוַדָּאִי), saying: this is one of the descenders into the Merkavah (לוֹמַר: זֶה מִיּוֹרְדֵי מֶרְכָּבָה). But if he is not worthy to descend into the Merkavah (אֲבָל אִם אֵינוֹ רָאוּי לֵרֵד בַּמֶּרְכָּבָה), once they say to him “enter,” and he enters immediately (כֵּיוָן שֶׁאוֹמְרִין לוֹ הִכָּנֵס וְהוּא נִכְנָס מִיָּד), they cast upon him thousands of iron decrees (מַטִּילִין עָלָיו אֲלָפִים מִגְּזָרֵי בַּרְזֶל).
