Chapter 34, Section 2 (פֶּרֶק ל״ד אוֹת ב׳)

2. The third decree-if it be so-gathers dread (ב. גְּזֵרָה שְׁלִישִׁית אוֹ כֵיוָן אִיסְפוֹד), for they need not make war, but merely through their appearance, all perish (שֶׁאֵינָם צְרִיכִים לַעֲשׂוֹת מִלְחָמָה אֶלָּא מִמַּרְאֵיהֶן הַכֹּל מֵתִים). They have seven eyes (שִׁבְעָה עֵינַיִם יֵשׁ לָהֶם): two like any human (שְׁתַּיִם כְּכָל אָדָם), one on his head (וְאֶחָד בְּרֹאשׁוֹ), one on his forehead (וְאֶחָד בְּפַדְחָתוֹ), one between his shoulders (וְאֶחָד בֵּין כְּתֵפָיו), one in his heart (וְאֶחָד בְּלִבּוֹ), and one in his navel (וְאֶחָד בְּטַבּוּרוֹ), as it is said: “Behold the stone that I have placed before Yehoshua-upon one stone are seven eyes” (Zechariah 3:9) (כִּי הִנְנִי מֵבִיא אֶת הָאֶבֶן אֲשֶׁר נָתַתִּי לִפְנֵי יְהוֹשֻׁעַ עַל אֶבֶן אֶחָת שִׁבְעָה עֵינַיִם). At that moment Israel cry out and say with one voice (בְּאוֹתוֹ שָׁעָה צוֹעֲקִים יִשְׂרָאֵל וְאוֹמְרִים בְּקוֹל אֶחָד): “Happy is he who was not created! (אַשְׁרֵי מִי שֶׁלֹּא נִבְרָא) Happy are the former generations who did not see such!” (אַשְׁרֵי דּוֹרוֹת הָרִאשׁוֹנִים שֶׁלֹּא רָאוּ כָּזֹאת). And why all this? Because of the mighty ones of Torah, who did not believe at the beginning (וְכָל כָּךְ לָמָּה בִּשְׁבִיל גִּבּוֹרֵי תּוֹרָה שֶׁלֹּא הֶאֱמִינוּ מִתְּחִלָּה), and did not remember Hashem (וְלֹא זָכְרוּ אֶת ה׳).
