Chapter 35, Section 5 (פֶּרֶק ל״ה אוֹת ה׳)

5. And the nations of the world return in repentance (ה. וְחוֹזְרִין אוּמוֹת הָעוֹלָם בִּתְשׁוּבָה), immediately the prince of the Mashiach stands and boasts before the Holy One, blessed be He (מִיָּד עוֹמֵד שָׂרוֹ שֶׁל מָשִׁיחַ מִשְׁתַּבֵּחַ לִפְנֵי הַקָּדוֹשׁ בָּרוּךְ הוּא), and says before Him: Master of the universe (וְאוֹמֵר לְפָנָיו: רִבּוֹנוֹ שֶׁל עוֹלָם), if You have sufferings greater than these, afflict me with them (אִם יֵשׁ לְךָ יִסּוּרִין גְּדוֹלִים מֵאֵלּוּ—יִסְּרֵנִי), and let not one from the nations of the world see or enjoy from the goodness hidden for Israel (וְאֶחָד מֵאֻמּוֹת הָעוֹלָם לֹא יִרְאֶה וְלֹא יִתְעַנֵּג מֵהַטּוֹבָה הַצְּפוּנָה לְיִשְׂרָאֵל). The Holy One, blessed be He, said to him: Ephraim, My righteous Mashiach, I also desire to do thus (אָמַר לוֹ הַקָּדוֹשׁ בָּרוּךְ הוּא: אֶפְרַיִם מְשִׁיחִי צִדְקִי, גַּם אֲנִי כָּךְ רוֹצֶה לַעֲשׂוֹת), but I had compassion for your honor (אֶלָּא חַסְתִּי עַל כְּבוֹדְךָ). Immediately the Holy One, blessed be He, takes two iron collars (מִיָּד נוֹטֵל הַקָּדוֹשׁ בָּרוּךְ הוּא שְׁנֵי קוֹלָרִין שֶׁל בַּרְזֶל), and places them upon the shoulder of the Mashiach (וּמַנִּיחָן עַל כְּתֵף שֶׁל מָשִׁיחַ), and says to him: One is for the iniquity of your generation (וְאוֹמֵר לוֹ: אֶחָד לַעֲו‍ֹן דּוֹרֶךָ), and one that not the nations of the world (וְאֶחָד שֶׁלֹּא אוּמוֹת הָעוֹלָם). At that moment Israel return to a different mindset (בְּאוֹתוֹ שָׁעָה חוֹזְרִין יִשְׂרָאֵל לְדַעַת אַחֶרֶת), and they disgrace the Mashiach (וּמְבַזִּין לַמָּשִׁיחַ), and say: Woe to us that we followed after this madman (וְאוֹמְרִים: אוֹי לָנוּ שֶׁתָּעִינוּ אַחַר מְשֻׁגָּע זֶה). The Holy One, blessed be He, says to them: “Madman you call him? Now behold his light that walks around him!” (אָמַר לָהֶם הַקָּדוֹשׁ בָּרוּךְ הוּא: מְשֻׁגָּע אַתֶּם קוֹרִין אוֹתוֹ עַכְשָׁו תִּרְאוּ אוֹרוֹ שֶׁהָיָה מְהַלֵּךְ סְבִיבָיו), as it is said: “And around Him a mighty storm” (Tehillim 50:3) (וּסְבִיבָיו נִשְׂעֲרָה מְאֹד). And everyone who believed in him is not erased from the Book of Life (וְכָל הַמַּאֲמִין בּוֹ אֵינוֹ נִמְחֶה מִסֵּפֶר הַחַיִּים), as it is said: “And at that time your people shall escape” (Daniel 12:1) (וּבָעֵת הַהִיא יִמָּלֵט עַמֶּךָ).
