Chapter 37, Section 2 (פֶּרֶק ל״ז אוֹת ב׳)

2. Behold, a day is coming for Hashem (ב. הִנֵּה יוֹם בָּא לַי־הוָה), that day when Gog and Magog come upon Israel (אוֹתוֹ הַיּוֹם שֶׁבָּא גוֹג וּמָגוֹג עַל יִשְׂרָאֵל), it shakes earth and heavens (מַרְגִּיז אֶרֶץ וְשָׁמַיִם), and a great quake in the land of Israel (וְרַעַשׁ גָּדוֹל בְּאַדְמַת יִשְׂרָאֵל), and they rise up to seize Jerusalem (וְעוֹלִים לִלְכֹּד יְרוּשָׁלַ‍ִם), as it is said: “And I will gather all the nations to Jerusalem…” (Zechariah 14:2) (שֶׁנֶּאֱמַר: וְאָסַפְתִּי אֶת כָּל הַגּוֹיִם אֶל יְרוּשָׁלַ‍ִם). At that time, war is waged with Gog and Magog (בְּאוֹתוֹ שָׁעָה עוֹשֶׂה מִלְחָמָה בְּגוֹג וּמָגוֹג), and there go forth with him seven shepherds and eight princes of man (וְיוֹצְאִין עִמּוֹ שִׁבְעָה רוֹעִים וּשְׁמוֹנָה נְסִיכֵי אָדָם). David in the center (דָּוִד בָּאֶמְצָע), Adam, Seth, Enosh, and Methuselah (אָדָם שֵׁת אֱנוֹשׁ וּמְתוּשֶׁלַח), and to his right—Avraham, Yitzchak, and Yaakov, Moshe and Aharon (וּמִימִינוֹ אַבְרָהָם יִצְחָק וְיַעֲקֹב מֹשֶׁה וְאַהֲרֹן), and to his left—eight princes of man: Shaul, Shmuel, Amos, and Tzefaniah, Eliyahu, Malki-Tzedek, Yishai, and Chizkiyahu (וּמִשְּׂמֹאלוֹ שְׁמוֹנָה נְסִיכֵי אָדָם: שָׁאוּל וּשְׁמוּאֵל עָמוֹס וּצְפַנְיָה אֵלִיָּהוּ וּמַלְכִּי־צֶדֶק וְיִשַׁי וְחִזְקִיָּהוּ). At that moment, the hearts of the ministering angels are calmed before the Holy One Blessed Be He (בְּאוֹתוֹ שָׁעָה מִתְקָרֵרֶת דַּעְתָּן שֶׁל מַלְאֲכֵי הַשָּׁרֵת לִפְנֵי הַקָּדוֹשׁ בָּרוּךְ הוּא), for in the moment that the Holy One Blessed Be He tramples Rome (שֶׁבְּשָׁעָה שֶׁדוֹרֵךְ הַקָּדוֹשׁ בָּרוּךְ הוּא אֶת רוֹמִי), He tramples it alone (אֵינוֹ דוֹרְכָה אֶלָּא לְבַדָּהּ), as it is said: “I have trodden the winepress alone” (Isaiah 63:3) (שֶׁנֶּאֱמַר: פוּרָה דָרַכְתִּי לְבַדִּי). The ministering angels say before the Holy One Blessed Be He (אוֹמְרִים מַלְאֲכֵי הַשָּׁרֵת לִפְנֵי הַקָּדוֹשׁ בָּרוּךְ הוּא): “Master of the Universe, from where are You coming?” (רִבּוֹנוֹ שֶׁל עוֹלָם, מֵאֵיזֶה מָקוֹם אַתָּה בָּא?) He says to them: “From on high” (אָמַר לָהֶם: מִמָּרוֹם). They say to Him: “Why is Your garment red?” (Isaiah 63:2) (אוֹמְרִים לוֹ: מַדּוּעַ אָדוֹם לִלְבוּשֶׁךָ). He says before them: “Master of the Universe, is there any king who goes to war without horsemen?” (הָיָה אוֹמֵר לִפְנֵיהֶם: רִבּוֹנוֹ שֶׁל עוֹלָם, כְּלוּם יֵשׁ מֶלֶךְ שֶׁהוֹלֵךְ לְמִלְחָמָה וְאֵין פָּרָשִׁים עִמּוֹ) “Why did You not ask us to go with You?” (מִפְּנֵי מָה לֹא בִקַּשְׁתָּנוּ לָלֶכֶת עִמְּךָ) He says to them: “It was a small winepress and you were not needed” (אוֹמֵר לָהֶם: גַּת קְטַנָּה הָיְתָה וְלֹא נִצְטְרַכְתֶּם לִי). Nonetheless, their hearts are not fully calmed (אַף עַל פִּי כֵן לֹא נִתְקָרְרָה דַּעְתָּן), He says to them: “Wait a little, I have another great winepress, and there you will be needed” (אוֹמֵר לָהֶם: הַמְתִּינוּ מְעַט, יֵשׁ לִי גַּת גְּדוֹלָה אַחֶרֶת וְאַתֶּם נִצְטָרְכִין לִי), as it is said: “And you shall flee to the valley of the mountains… when the valley of the mountains reaches…” (Zechariah 14:5) (שֶׁנֶּאֱמַר: וְנַסְתֶּם גֵּיא הָרָי כִּי יַגִּיעַ גֵּי הָרִים] וְגוֹ)'.
