Chapter 38, Section 5 (פֶּרֶק ל״ח אוֹת ה׳)

5. They say to him: “Now what remedy is left for us?” (ה. אוֹמְרִים לוֹ: עַכְשָׁיו מָה תַּקָּנָה יֵשׁ לָנוּ?) He says to them: “There is a remedy—and it is called Gehinnom.” (אוֹמֵר לָהֶם: יֵשׁ תַּקָּנָה, וְגֵיהִנֹּם שְׁמָהּ.) They say to him: “What is it like? And what does it resemble?” (אוֹמְרִים לוֹ: הֵיאַךְ הוּא וּכְמָה הוּא דּוֹמֶה) He says to them: “It has good gifts—fire and brimstone, darkness and gloom.” (אוֹמֵר לָהֶם: מַתָּנוֹת טוֹבוֹת יֵשׁ בָּהּ: אֵשׁ וְגָפְרִית, חֹשֶׁךְ וַאֲפֵלָה.) They say to him: “There is no mercy in your judgment! Behold—are not the hands of the Holy One Blessed Be He little?” (אוֹמְרִים לוֹ: אֵין רַחֲמִים בְּדִינְךָ וַהֲלֹא מְעַטוֹת יָדָיו שֶׁל הַקָּדוֹשׁ בָּרוּךְ הוּא) He says to them: “I too judge you on His mission.” (אוֹמֵר לָהֶם: אַף אֲנִי בִּשְׁלִיחוּתוֹ דָּן אֶתְכֶם.) He says to them: “By the measure that you acted toward My children, so do I act toward you.” (אוֹמֵר לָהֶם: בְּמִדָּה שֶׁעֲשִׂיתֶם לִבְנַי, כָּךְ אֲנִי עוֹשֶׂה לָכֶם.) At that moment, the prince of Gehinnom calls out to him and says: (בְּאוֹתָהּ שָׁעָה קוֹרֵא לוֹ שַׂר שֶׁל גֵּיהִנֹּם וְאוֹמֵר לוֹ:) “Ephraim, My righteous Mashiach, enough speaking with them!” (אֶפְרַיִם מְשִׁיחִ צִדְקִי, דַּיְּךָ שִׂיחָה עִמָּהֶם) Immediately Mashiach grasps the four corners of the earth (מִיָּד אוֹחֵז מָשִׁיחַ בְּאַרְבַּע כַּנְפוֹת הָאָרֶץ), and he shakes them into Gehinnom (וּמְנַעֲרָן בְּתוֹךְ גֵּיהִנֹּם), like a man who shakes his cloak from dust (כְּאָדָם שֶׁמְּנַעֵר כְּסוּתוֹ מִן הֶעָפָר), as it is said: “To seize the ends of the earth…” (Job 38:13) (שֶׁנֶּאֱמַר: לֶאֱחֹז בְּכַנְפוֹת הָאָרֶץ וְגוֹ').
