The Third Firmament
הָרָקִיעַ הַשְּׁלִישִׁי
And the third firmament is filled with treasuries of cloud (וְהָרָקִיעַ הַשְּׁלִישִׁי מָלֵא אוֹצְרוֹת עֲרָפֶל), and from it go forth winds (וּמִמֶּנּוּ רוּחוֹת יוֹצְאוֹת), and within it are camps of thunder (וּבְתוֹכוֹ מַחֲנוֹת רְעָמִים), and from it go forth lightning bolts (וּבָרָקִים מִמֶּנּוּ יוֹצְאִים). And within it three princes sit upon their thrones (וּבוֹ שְׁלֹשָׁה שָׂרִים יוֹשְׁבִים עַל כִּסְאוֹתֵיהֶם), and they and their garments are in the likeness of fire (וְהֵם וּלְבוּשָׁם בִּדְמוּת אֵשׁ), and the likeness of the thrones is as fire (וּדְמוּת הַכִּסְאוֹת כָּאֵשׁ), and the fire shines like gold (וְהָאֵשׁ מַבְהֶקֶת כַּזָּהָב).
They rule over all angels of fire (מוֹשְׁלִים בְּכָל מַלְאֲכֵי אֵשׁ), and their strength is as fire (וְהֵם כָּאֵשׁ גְּבוּרָתָם), and their voice is as the roar of thunder (וְקוֹלָם כְּשַׁאֲגַת קוֹל רָעַם), and their eyes are as the pipes of the sun (וְעֵינֵיהֶם כְּצִנּוֹרֵי שֶׁמֶשׁ), and they rule over the wheels of flame and blaze (וּמוֹשְׁלִים בְּגַלְגַלֵּי לַהַב וְלֶהָט), and they have wings to fly (וְיֵשׁ לָהֶם כְּנָפַיִם לָעוּף), and the sound of their mouths is as the neighing of horses (צְהַלַת פִּיהֶם כְּסוּסִים), their appearance as torches (מַרְאֵיהֶם כְּלַפִּידִים), speaking and quaking (מְדַבְּרִים וּמְרַעֲשִׁים), roaring and fluttering (שׁוֹאֲגִים וּמְרוֹפְפִים), soaring on every wind and flying to every direction (דָּאִים לְכָל רוּחַ וּמְעוֹפְפִים לְכָל פִּנָּה).
These are the names of the princes who rule in the habitation that is the third firmament (אֵלֶּה שֵׁמוֹת הַשָּׂרִים הַמּוֹשְׁלִים בַּמָּעוֹן שֶׁהוּא רָקִיעַ שְׁלִישִׁי): the first is Yavni’el (שֵׁם הָאֶחָד יַבְנִיאֵל), the second is Rahati’el (שֵׁם הַשֵּׁנִי רַהֲטִיאֵל), and the third is Dalki’el (וְשֵׁם הַשְּׁלִישִׁי דַּלְקִיאֵל). Yavni’el rules over every matter of fire—to ignite and to extinguish (יַבְנִיאֵל מוֹשֵׁל בְּכָל דָּבָר שֶׁל אֵשׁ לְהַבְעִיר וּלְכַבּוֹת), Rahati’el rules over every fiery chariot—to race and to stumble (רַהֲטִיאֵל מוֹשֵׁל עַל כָּל רֶכֶב אֵשׁ לְהָרִיץ וּלְהַכְשִׁיל), Dalki’el rules over the flames of fire—to kindle and to subdue (דַּלְקִיאֵל מוֹשֵׁל עַל לַהֲבֵי אֵשׁ לְהַדְלִיק וּלְהַשְׁקִיעַ).
These are the names of the angels who serve Yavni’el (אֵלֶּה שְׁמוֹת הַמַּלְאָכִים הַמְשָׁרְתִים אֶת יַבְנִיאֵל): Sha‘iphi’el (שַׁעִיפִיאֵל), Adri’el (אַדְרִיאֵל), T’hedi’el (תְּהֶדִיאֵל), Ba‘ashi’el (בַּעֲשִׁיאֵל), Tahafi’el (טַהֲפִיאֵל), Ralvi’el (רַלְבִיאֵל), B’lani’el (בְּלַנִיאֵל), Tehazri’el (תְּהַזְרִיאֵל), A‘azi’el (אַעֲזִיאֵל), Amnachi’el (אַמְנַחִיאֵל), Maltachi’el (מַלְתַּחִיאֵל), Divki’el (דִּיבְקִיאֵל), Barshasa’el (בַּרְשַׁשָּׂאֵל), Sakha’el (סַחָאֵל), Tatva’el (תַּתְבָּאֵל), Kasmiy’el (קַסְמִיאֵל), Tassi’el (טַסִּיאֵל), Kastaskadi’el (קַסְטַסְקַדִיאֵל), Namdi’el (נַמְדִיאֵל).
If you seek to extinguish a bathhouse so that it not rise and blaze (אִם בִּקַּשְׁתָּ לְכַבּוֹת מֶרְחָץ שֶׁלֹּא תַעֲלֶה וְתַלְהֵט), bring a salamandra and place it in old oil of three years in a glass vessel (הֲבֵא סַלְאַמַנְדְרָא וְתֵן אוֹתָהּ בְּשֶׁמֶן יָשָׁן בֶּן ג׳ שָׁנִים בִּכְלִי זְכוּכִית), and do not place it upon the ground (וְאַל תִּתְּנֵהוּ עַל הָאָרֶץ), and recite over it the name of the officer and the names of the angels who serve before him (וְהַזְכֵּר עָלָיו אֶת שֵׁם הַשּׁוֹטֵר וְאֶת שְׁמוֹת הַמַּלְאָכִים הַמְשָׁרְתִים לְפָנָיו), seven times in reverse order (שֶׁבַע פְּעָמִים לְמִפְרָע), at the third hour of the night (בִּשְׁלֹשׁ שָׁעוֹת בַלַּיְלָה), and say: I adjure you, Salamandra, in the name of Yavni’el and in the name of the angels of fire who serve him (וֶאֱמוֹר: מַשְׁבִּיעַ אֲנִי עָלַיִךְ סַלְאַמַנְדְרָא בְּשֵׁם יַבְנִיאֵל וּבְשֵׁם מַלְאֲכֵי הָאֵשׁ הַמְשָׁרְתִים אוֹתוֹ), just as you have fled from the fire, so too shall you flee and extinguish the fire from the flaming bathhouse of So-and-so son of So-and-so (כַּמָּה שֶׁהִבְרַחְתְּ מִן הָאֵשׁ כֵּן תַּבְרִיחִי וְתְכַבִּי הָאֵשׁ מִן הַמֶּרְחָץ הַמְלַהֵט שֶׁל פ׳ב׳פ׳).
And you, angels of fire, whose deeds are all in fire (וְאַתֶּם מַלְאֲכֵי הָאֵשׁ שֶׁכָּל מַעֲשֵׂיכֶם בָּאֵשׁ), do not grant permission to the fire to come and blaze this bathhouse (אַל תִּתְּנוּ רְשׁוּת לָאֵשׁ שֶׁתָּבוֹא וְתַלְהֵט אֶת הַמֶּרְחָץ הַזּוֹ), and stand at her gates (וְעִמְדוּ עַל שַׁעֲרֶיהָ), enter into her (וּבוֹאוּ לְתוֹכָהּ), and make her like frost of snow and like cold water (וַעֲשׂוּהָ כְּצִנַּת שֶׁלֶג וּכְמַיִם קָרִים).
And take the vial of oil and place from it in each room at its four corners (וְקַח אֶת פַּךְ הַשֶּׁמֶן וְתֵן מִמֶּנּוּ בְּכָל בַּיִת וּבַיִת בְּאַרְבַּע זְוִיּוֹתָיו). And if you seek to release the act (וְאִם בִּקַּשְׁתָּה לְהַתִּיר אֶת הַמַּעֲשֶׂה), take the rest of the oil and stand facing the sun (קַח מִיֶּתֶר הַשֶּׁמֶן וַעֲמוֹד כְּנֶגֶד הַשֶּׁמֶשׁ), and mention the name of Yavni’el and the names of the angels who serve him (וְהַזְכֵּר אֶת שֵׁם יַבְנִיאֵל וְאֶת שְׁמוֹת הַמַּלְאָכִים הַמְשָׁרְתִים אוֹתוֹ), and say: I adjure you, angel of fire and angel of flame (וֶאֱמוֹר: מַשְׁבִּיעַ אֲנִי עָלֶיךָ מַלְאַךְ אֵשׁ וּמַלְאַךְ שַלְהֶבֶת), that you release what I have bound (שֶׁתַּתִּיר אֶת מַה שֶּׁאָסַרְתִּי), and give permission to the angels who stand at the gates of the bathhouse of So-and-so son of So-and-so (וְתִּתֵּן רְשׁוּת לַמַּלְאָכִים הָעוֹמְדִים עַל שַׁעֲרֵי הַמֶּרְחָץ שֶׁל פ׳ב׳פ׳), and let them kindle it and ignite it as at the beginning (וְיַבְעִירוּהָ וִיסִיקוּהָ כַּבַּתְּחִלָּה). And take the vial of oil and pour it in each room at its four corners (וְקַח אֶת פַּךְ הַשֶּׁמֶן וְשָׁפוֹךְ בְּכָל בַּיִת בְּאַרְבַּע זְוִיּוֹתָיו), and it shall flame and blaze (וְתִלְהַט וְתִלְהֵב).

And take the plate and bury it at the racetrack where you seek to succeed (וְקַח אֶת הַטַּס וְטַמְּנֵהוּ בַּמִּרְוָץ שֶׁאַתָּה מְבַקֵּשׁ לִזְכּוֹת).

If you seek to show a marvel to your beloved or to your friend (אִם בִּקַּשְׁתָּה לְהַרְאוֹת דוּקְמָא לְאוֹהֲבְךָ אוֹ לְרֵעֲךָ), to fill a house with fire and it shall not burn anything (לְמַלֵּאת בַּיִת אֵשׁ וְלֹא יִשְׂרֹף מְאוּמָה), take a grain of Agriaophoris (קַח עֶגֶר אַגְרִיאָוֹפוֹרִיס), and place it on burning coals (וּתְנֵהוּ עַל גַּחֲלֵי אֵשׁ), and its smoke shall rise within the house (וְיַעַל עֲשָׁנוֹ בְּתוֹךְ הַבַּיִת), and recite the names of the angels and the name of the officer over them, who is Dalki’el (וְהַזְכֵּר שְׁמוֹת הַמַּלְאָכִים וְשֵׁם הַשּׁוֹטֵר עֲלֵיהֶם שֶׁהוּא דַּלְקִיאֵל), as its smoke rises seven times (כְּשֶׁיַּעֲלֶה עֲשָׁנוֹ שֶׁבַע פְּעָמִים), and when the smoke is there, all who see shall behold fire (וּכְשֶׁיְּהֵא הֶעָשָׁן כָּל רוֹאָיו יִהְיוּ רוֹאִים בָּאֵשׁ). And when you invoke the angels’ names, say (וּכְשֶׁתַּזְכִּיר שְׁמוֹת הַמַּלְאָכִים אֱמוֹר):
I adjure you, angels clothed in fire (מַשְׁבִּיעַ אֲנִי עֲלֵיכֶם הַמַּלְאָכִים הָעֲטוּפִים אֵשׁ), in Him who is all fire (בְּמִי שֶׁכֻּלוֹ אֵשׁ), and whose throne is of fire (וּמֻשָּׁבוֹ עַל כִּסֵּא אֵשׁ), and whose servants are flaming fire (וּמְשָׁרְתָיו אֵשׁ לֹהֵטֶת), and camps of fire serve before Him (וּמַחֲנוֹת אֵשׁ מְשָׁרְתִים לְפָנָיו), in His great Name I adjure you (בִּשְׁמוֹ הַגָּדוֹל אֲנִי מַשְׁבִּיעַ אֶתְכֶם), that you show me this great wonder (שֶׁתַּרְאוּנִי הַנֵּס הַגָּדוֹל הַזֶּה), and fill this house with your fire (וּתְמַלְאוּ אֶת הַבַּיִת הַזֶּה מֵאִשְׁכֶם), and I and all with me shall see this great marvel (וְאֶרְאֶה אֲנִי וְכָל שֶׁעִמִּי הַנֵּס הַגָּדוֹל הַזֶּה), and we shall not fear (וְלֹא נִפְחָד). And if you seek to subdue it (וְאִם בִּקַּשְׁתָּ לְהַשְׁקִיעַ אוֹתוֹ), recite the adjuration in reverse order (דַּבֵּר אֶת הַשְּׁבוּעָה לְמִפְרַע), and say: Angels of fire, extinguish, extinguish swiftly, suddenly, quickly (מַלְאֲכֵי אֵשׁ כַּבּוּ כַּבּוּ פִּתְאֹם מְהֵרָה חוּשָׁה). “How great are Your works, Hashem! All of them You made with wisdom.” (מַה רַבּוּ מַעֲשֶׂיךָ יְיָ כֻּלָּם בְּחָכְמָה עָשִׂיתָ).
