Corresponding to him is Metatron, whose name is like the name of his Master Yod is the head of the bird (י׳ רֵישָׁא דְעוֹפָא), Vav is his body (ו׳ גּוּפָא דִילֵיהּ), Heh Heh are his two wings, with which he flies upward and descends downward (ה״ה תְּרֵי גַדְפוֹי דִבְהוֹן פָּרַח לְעִילָא וְנָחִית לְתַתָּא). And these two wings are the two breaths, Heh Heh Of them it is said: “And the living creatures ran and returned” (Ezekiel 1:14) These are Yod Vav (דְּאִינוּן י״ו). Breath ascends with Yod, breath descends with Vav Like the breath that goes out from the mouth of a furnace
So too the sea ascends and descends, and its waves run and return And they sought to return the world to tohu va-vohu But at the time when they look toward the Shekhinta, which is the boundary of the sea, they return to their places Come and see: Yod is speech, utterance, and calling Vav is voice (ו׳ קוֹל). Heh Heh are breath descending in speech and breath ascending in voice Voice ascends, speech descends (קוֹל סָלִיק, דִּבּוּר נָחִית). And when it ascends and descends, the angels of Elohim ascend and descend in it These are his hosts and armies And this is the mystery: “Who ascended to heaven and descended?”
Happy is he who causes prayers to ascend in it, for prayer is the ladder, upon which the angels of Elohim ascend and descend There are some who ascend upward, and some who descend downward When they ascend upward, they ascend in merit And when they descend, they descend in merit For the completely righteous, her ascent from him is in merit, and her descent into him is in merit
For the intermediate, whose merit is weighed against sins, she is suspended in the air If sins outweigh merits, she ascends in sins and descends in merits, and he takes his reward in this world For the completely wicked, who have no merit in this world, neither above nor below, she ascends from him in sins and descends upon him in sins
Here it is: “For a bird of the heavens shall carry the voice” (Ecclesiastes 10:20) (הָא הָכָא כִּי עוֹף הַשָּׁמַיִם יוֹלִיךְ אֶת הַקּוֹל), of which it is said: “And a bird shall fly” (Bereshit 1:20) (דְּאִתְּמַר בֵּיהּ וְעוֹף יְעוֹפֵף). As in: “Being caused to fly swiftly” (Daniel 9:21) Over the face of the firmament of the heavens - this is the Neshamah For those who are worthy in Orayta, it is said of them: “Let the waters swarm with a swarm of living soul” (Bereshit 1:20) For they inherit neshamot from Orayta For the others, each one according to his kind, according to his deeds This is that which is written on the sixth day: “And Elohim said: Let the earth bring forth the living soul after its kind, cattle and creeping thing, etc.”
“Cattle” - these are the peoples of the earth, whose deeds are like those of animals Of them it is said: “Let the earth bring forth the living soul after its kind, cattle and creeping thing” (Bereshit 1:24)
The Forty-Sixth Tikkun
Bereshit - He created six And these are the six wings of the living creature (וְאִינוּן שִׁית גַּדְפִין דְּחַיָּה), of which it is said: “And a bird shall fly above the earth upon the face of the firmament of the heavens” (Bereshit 1:20) (דְאִתְּמַר בָּהּ וְעוֹף יְעוֹפֵף עַל הָאָרֶץ עַל פְּנֵי רְקִיעַ הַשָּׁמָיִם). These are the six Sefirot included in that bird, which is the middle pillar There are some who inherit the spirit of holiness in the path of Atzilut from this bird And there are some who inherit the spirit from that bird which is the youth, whose name is like the name of his Master And there are some who inherit the spirit from below, from the earth As Kohelet said: “Who knows the spirit of man, whether it ascends upward; and the spirit of the beast, whether it descends downward to the earth?”
