“And Elohim created man in His image; in the image of Elohim He created him” (Bereshit 5:2) Here is the commandment of tefillin Come and see: whoever places tefillin on his head and on his arm (תָּא חֲזִי כָּל מָאן דְּאַנַּח תְּפִלִּין עַל רֵישֵׁיהּ וְעַל דְּרוֹעִיהּ), a voice ascends every day to all the living creatures, chariots, ophanim, seraphim, and angels appointed over the prayers (קָלָא סָלִיק בְּכָל יוֹמָא לְכָל חֵיוָון מֶרְכָּבוֹת וְאוֹפַנִּים וּשְׂרָפִים וּמַלְאָכִים דִּמְמַנָּן עַל צְלוֹתִין): Give honor to the likeness of the King, who is the one that places tefillin Of him it is said: “And Elohim created man in His image; in the image of Elohim He created him” (Bereshit 5:2)
“In His image” - these are the tefillin of the head (בְּצַלְמוֹ בִּתְּפִלִּין דְּרֵישָׁא), corresponding to the tefillin of the Master of the Worlds (כְּגַוְונָא דִתְּפִלִּין דְּמָארֵי עָלְמָא), which are the Upper Shekhinta, tefillin on the head - this is the middle pillar (דְאִינוּן שְׁכִינְתָּא עִלָּאָה תְּפִלִּין עַל רֵישָׁא דְעַמּוּדָא דְאֶמְצָעִיתָא), which is the inclusion of the three first Sefirot (דְאִיהִי כְּלָלָא דִתְלַת סְפִירָן קַדְמָאִין). And the middle pillar includes six Sefirot And the Supernal Imma is tefillin upon His head These are the tefillin that Kudsha Berikh Hu places every day
“In the image of Elohim” - these are the tefillin of the arm This is the lower Shekhinta, which is bound to Him Of her it is said: “And his soul is bound up with his soul” (Bereshit 44:30) The two of them are in one union, in one bond The strap wrapped on the left finger - this is her betrothal (רְצוּעָה כְּרִיכָא בְאֶצְבָּעָא שְׂמָאלָא דָא קִדּוּשִׁין דִּילָהּ), which is the ring bound on her finger (דְּאִיהִי טַבַּעַת כְּרִיכָא בְּאֶצְבָּעָא דִילָהּ). By it she is bound to Him and He to her This is holiness (הָא קְדוּשָׁה).
“Blessing” is the inclusion of the seven Sefirot And these are the seven blessings of the bridegroom (וְאִינוּן שֶׁבַע בִּרְכָאָן דְּחָתָן), which are the seven days, the seventh being the Tzaddik (דְּאִינוּן ז׳ יוֹם הַשְּׁבִיעִי צַדִּיק). Of him it is said: “And blessings are upon the head of the Tzaddik” (Proverbs 10:6) (עֲלֵיהּ אִתְּמַר וּבְרָכוֹת לְרֹאשׁ צַדִּיק), for he inherits from the Supernal Imma (דְּיָרִית מֵאִמָּא עִלָּאָה). And the letter Yod upon his head is Chokhmah, Yod Through it seven are made - the seven blessings that the bridegroom and bride inherit And they are all included in the Tzaddik, the seventh day, in which the bridegroom and bride unite This is YAHDVNHY (דְאִיהוּ יאהדונה״י). And this has been established: “For everything is in the heavens and in the earth” (1 Chronicles 29:11) And the Targum: “That which is held in the heavens and in the earth” (וְתַרְגּוּם דַּאֲחִיד בִּשְׁמַיָּא וּבְאַרְעָא). And this is the sign of the covenant, for there is no union of bridegroom and bride apart from it
“And they were completed, the heavens and the earth and all their host” (Bereshit 2:1) And they were completed in the Tzaddik, in whom are included all the limbs and all the Sefirot All the limbs are the positive commandments In him is fulfilled: “Who has sanctified us with His commandments and commanded us to do all the commandments” (דְבֵיהּ אֲשֶׁר קִדְּשָׁנוּ בְּמִצְוֹתָיו וְצִוָּנוּ לְמֶעֱבַד כָּל פִּקּוּדִין). For he is Kol, he includes all, and he is all, and upon him everything depends The pillar that bears the heavens and the earth upon him And in him were made general, particular, and general For this reason: “And they were completed,” the heavens and the earth were included
“Heavens” are fire and water - this is the left and the right “Heavens” - the middle pillar that includes both “The earth” - the lower Shekhinta “And all their host” - Netzach and Hod, which are the host of the heavens For he includes the seven Sefirot with which David praised Kudsha Berikh Hu; this is that which is written: “Yours, Hashem, is the greatness and the power…” For this reason the seventh day is called the inclusion of seven And they ascend to seventy, the computation of the words of Kiddush and “And they were completed” (וְסָלְקִין לְשַׁבְעִין דְּחֻשְׁבַּן תֵּיבִין דְּקִדּוּשׁ וּוַיְכֻלּוּ).
“And Elohim completed on the seventh day” (Bereshit 2:2) This is the Supernal Imma, which is Elohim, after the seven Sefirot are included in her All the Shabbatot, the seven Shabbatot, are called by her name After the three Supernal Sefirot, which are included in the Supernal Imma, are included in her (לְבָתַר כְּלִיל בֵּיהּ תְּלַת סְפִירָן עִלָּאִין דְּכָלִיל בְּאִימָּא עִלָּאָה), she is called “Seventh, Seventh, Seventh” by her name (וְקָרָא לוֹן שְׁבִיעִי שְׁבִיעִי שְׁבִיעִי עַל שְׁמֵיהּ). This is that which is written: “And Elohim completed on the seventh day” (Bereshit 2:2) (הֲדָא הוּא דִכְתִיב וַיְכַל אלהי״ם בַּיּוֹם הַשְּׁבִיעִי) - this is one inclusion. “And He rested on the seventh day” - this is the second “And Elohim blessed the seventh day” - this is the third, to be included in the ten Sefirot For there is no Sefirah that is not included in ten, each one in its own dominion But in the dominion of the Tzaddik, the seventh day, all the Sefirot are called Sevenths
Seventy words are in the Kiddush and “And they were completed” (שַׁבְעִין תֵּיבִין אִינוּן בְּקִדּוּשׁ וּוַיְכֻלּוּ). “Remember” and “Guard” - these are seventy-two, corresponding to the count of “And they were completed” (וְזָכוֹר וְשָׁמוֹר הָא שַׁבְעִין וּתְרֵין כְּחֻשְׁבַּן וַיְכֻלּוּ). And Shabbat must be prepared with a table of four legs (וְשַׁבָּת צָרִיךְ לְתַקְנָא בֵּיהּ פָּתוֹרָא בְּאַרְבַּע רַגְלִין), corresponding to the Table above, of which it is said: “This is the table that is before Hashem” (Ezekiel 41:22) (כְּגַוְונָא דְפָתוֹרָא דִלְעִילָא דְאִתְּמַר בֵּיהּ זֶה הַשֻּׁלְחָן אֲשֶׁר לִפְנֵי יהו״ה). And concerning it, it is said: “You prepare a table before me” (Psalms 23:5) The table of Kudsha Berikh Hu - this is the Shekhinta She is on the side of the north, which is Gevurah And for this reason the Masters of the Mishnah prepared the table in the north And a candle burning to the right, corresponding to that above, of which it is said: “The Menorah to the south” (Exodus 26:35) A bed in the middle, from the side of the middle pillar
