Chapter Three (פֶּרֶק שְׁלִישִׁי)

This primordial Air is a trace of the light of the Garment (אֲוִיר קַדְמוֹן הַזֶּה, הוּא רֹשֶׁם אוֹר הַלְּבוּשׁ), and mixed into it is a slight trace of His Essence (וּמְעֹרָב בּוֹ קְצָת רֹשֶׁם עַצְמוּתוֹ), therefore the Yod was also required afterward to descend downward into the Tehiru to elevate it from there, as I will explain (לָכֵן גַּם כֵּן הֻצְרְכָה אַחַר כָּךְ הַיּו״ד לָרֶדֶת לְמַטָּה בְּתוֹךְ טְהִירוּ לְהַעֲלוֹתוֹ מִשָּׁם, כְּמוֹ שֶׁאֲבָאֵר). And this Air is square (וְהָאֲוִיר הַזֶּה הוּא מְרוּבָּע), by the power of the Name Ben-Dalet (מִכֹּחַ שֵׁם בֶּן דָּ), which is in the four corners (אֲשֶׁר הוּא בְּאַרְבַּע קַרְנוֹת), for in its four corners are the four fillings of the Name Havayah (כִּי יֵשׁ בְּד׳ קַרְנוֹתָיו אַרְבַּע מִלּוּאֵי שֵׁם הוי״ה), that is: A"B, S"G, M"H, B"N (דְּהַיְינוּ: ע״ב, ס״ג, מ״ה, ב״ן), and they extend and appear above the circle of the sphere of the Tehiru which stands within it (וְהֵם עוֹדְפִים וְנִרְאִים לְמַעְלָה עַל עִגּוּל כַּדּוּר הַטְּהִירוּ הָעוֹמֵד בְּתוֹכוֹ). And this sphere is circular (וְהַכַּדּוּר הַזֶּה הוּא עָגוֹל), and the primordial Air is square (וְהָאֲוִיר קַדְמוֹן הוּא מְרוּבָּע), therefore the four corners of the primordial Air extend beyond the circle (לָכֵן עוֹדְפִים עַל הָעִגּוּל ד׳ קַרְנוֹת שֶׁל הָאֲוִיר קַדְמוֹן), and its letters were formed from the droppings of the Garment (וְאוֹתִיּוֹתָיו נִבְנוּ מִן הַנּוֹבְלוֹת שֶׁל הַלְּבוּשׁ). And when Kudsha Berikh Hu raised the lower half of the Garment behind the upper half (וּכְשֶׁהֶעֱלָה קב״ה חֲצִי הַמַּלְבּוּשׁ הַתַּחְתּוֹן אֲחוֹרֵי חֲצִי הָעֶלְיוֹן), the upper was pushed upward because of the removal of the lower (נִדְחַק הָעֶלְיוֹן לְמַעְלָה בִּגְלַל סִלּוּק הַתַּחְתּוֹן), approximately by the width of a line between rows of letters (בְּעֵרֶךְ רֹחַב הַשִּׁיטָּה שֶׁבֵּין שׁוּרַת הָאוֹתִיּוֹת), and it left behind a blessing - that is, the aforementioned droppings (וְהִשְׁאִיר אַחֲרָיו בְּרָכָה, דְּהַיְינוּ הַנּוֹבְלוֹת הַנִּזְכָּרוֹת). And this is the secret of the primordial Air (וְהוּא סוֹד הָאֲוִיר קַדְמוֹן). And this Air spreads downward until the nose - that is, the nasal cavity of Atika (וְזֶה הָאֲוִיר מִתְפַּשֵּׁט לְמַטָּה עַד חוֹטְמָא, דְּהַיְינוּ פַּרְדְּשְׁקָא דְּעַתִּיקָא). And this is what is said in the Sifra deTzniuta: “And from there the spirit awakens to all” (וְזֶהוּ אָמְרוּ בְּסִפְרָא דְצְנִיעוּתָא: וּמִשָּׁם אִתְעֲר רוּחָא לְכָלָּא), meaning: the spirit of holiness to those who are worthy of it (רָצָה לוֹמַר: רוּחַ הַקֹּדֶשׁ לָרְאוּיִם אֵלָיו).
